Default Ways to Avoid Back Pains - Strengthen the already Disabled Back

Back Pain knows no age and it knows no gender. Back Pain doesn't recognize social status and it spares neither the rich nor the poor. Children suffer from back pains. Adults suffer from back pains. Women Suffer from Back pains. Men also have their share. However, there are ways and simple things we can do to decrease the risk of having a back pain and maybe put strength back to the already disabled back.

Wrong sitting posture may by itself produce back pain, {waist pain, neck pain and mid-back pain} which constitute a back pain. And regardless of the original cause, once back pain or stiffness that has develop into poor sitting posture will further worsen the condition.

People who do most part of their work in the office such as clerks, accountants, directors would easily develop any of the back illness {waist pain, neck pain, mid-back pain} because many of these categories of people maintain a posture for too long.

If you are an office worker, you may be going through the following stages of gradually increasing back problem. Unless you take proactive steps.

Initially, you may experience back pain only while sitting for a long period or on standing after sitting in a car. The pain is caused by overstretching of the soft tissue in the back and it takes only a few seconds for the disc to recover.

At this stage, the pain exists only for a short time.
At a later stage, you will find that on getting up will be more painful than before and for the disc to recover you must walk at least a short distance.

Now it is likely that some distortion has occurred in one of the disc in the spinal column. Prolonged sitting has led to minor distortion of a disc and the disc needs some minutes to recover.

Eventually you may reach the stage where you frequently experience sharp pain on standing and you are unable to straighten up, even after walking carefully.

If this is the case then there is a major distortion of the affected disc which cannot regain its natural shape quickly enough to allow pain free movement, instead whenever a movement is attempted, the disc bulge increases the strain on the already surrounding tissues which are already overstretched.

In addition the disc bulge may pinch the sciatic nerve {this is the longest nerve in the body that runs from the waist to the legs} that is, if the problem is in the waist or lower back.

This will eventually cause pain, numbness and tingling sensation in the affected leg. At this stage whatever drug prescribed or taken for the pain would only give one a transient relief.

People whose jobs are always making them maintain a posture for too long should be sensitive to the time when their backs call for attention on account of years of neglect and years of wrong posture.

At the early stage of back problem, cure lies in self-correction and light therapeutic back exercise prescribed by an experienced physiotherapist. If the pain problem gets out of hand, i.e. if it becomes chronic, seek the services of a competent physiotherapist or ask your doctor to refer you to one.

The labor intensive measures carried out by a skilled physiotherapist will abolish the pain, restore mobility and strengthen the already disabled back and the victim will resume productive life.

One of the common consequences of untreated back pain is radiculopathy or sciatica. The more common word that most people use wrongly to describe sciatica is rheumatism. The word rheumatism is most often used for all painful muscle processes in which the origin of the pain is unknown.

It is often times referred to complaint of people which sometimes are manifested as painful points and at other times as radiating pain which darts about mostly in the muscles of the back and legs or muscles of the neck and arms and of course lacks the classic symptoms of rheumatism such as swelling, reddening, warmth except pain.

So, pain alone is not sufficiently accurate enough to describe the problems at the back and the radiating pain to the leg or arm as rheumatism.

Moreover, the term is completely inaccurate either since it does not reflect changes in the blood count, the presence of rheumatoid factor in the blood or acceleration of blood sedimentation which are the typical symptoms of a genuine rheumatic disease.

Sciatica is a problem or condition associated to nerve roots. The name is taken after the longest nerve in the body which starts from the waist through the buttocks to the legs; once there is a problem with this nerve it will cause pain.

The pain starts at the lower back {waist}. The pain may start suddenly especially when caused by a slipped disc or it may creep upon the person slowly as a dull annoying ache. At first the pain comes and goes. The pain is usually intensified by stooping, sitting, walking or any movement of the spine.

It is relieved by lying on the bed. Later the pain is there all the time and spreads to the buttock as a deep annoying ache which feels as if it would disappear when massaged. Unfortunately, massaging does not relieve the pain, pressing the buttock does not relieve the pain either.

Soon after, the pain shoots into the legs down to the feet. This is made worse sometimes by sneezing and coughing or increased laughter.

The effects of prolonged back pain shall be elaborately explained according to the three common areas of pain in the back {neck, mid-back, and waist}. You may be a victim or potential victim of any of the three region of pain or all.
